It’s the first day of June which in my book is the first day of Summer Fun, warm weather, outdoor music festivals, cook outs, birthdays, graduation (for my middle schooler *insert tear here*), African-American Music Appreciation Month. and Caribbean American Heritage Month! All of which means there is a ton of fun and festivities to experience.
Although I’m still investigating my personal Caribbean lineage (so far my research has led me to the Grenadines), my children are definitely under the Caribbean American umbrella, from their paternal side of the family which comes from St.Ann, Jamaica. It’s great to remind them of how proud they should be of their heritage and also to just enjoy the social, cultural, educational, recreational events that take place during this time of year, no matter what your cultural background is. Caribbean American Heritage Month is a pretty big deal in the DMV and its nice to see that there is an entire community and sub communities (different counties) that participate.
I thought I would list a few events that are happening during the entire month all over the DC Metro area as well as some bonus events that extend beyond June, maybe we will bump into each other who knows!
